Ubisoft website hacked -- For real, this ain't no Watch Dogs joke

How fitting is it that the website for the company currently developing a game about hacking has been hacked? Talk about a black fly in your chardonnay.

It appears an Aiden Pearce wannabe has cracked the system and gained "unauthorized access" to some of Ubisoft's online systems. All usernames, email addresses and passwords have potentially been accessed, so users are advised to change their password.

“We recently found that one of our Web sites was exploited to gain unauthorized access to some of our online systems,” Ubisoft said in a email sent to its users. “We instantly took steps to close off this access, investigate the incident and begin restoring the integrity of any compromised systems.

"During this process, we learned that data had been illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords. Please note that no personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, meaning your debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion.”

At least we don't have to worry about Pearce gaining access to our accounts -- unlike that poor lady in the demo. Out of caution, Ubisoft still recommends you change your password on any other website or service where you use the same or a similar password. Seriously people, we live in an interconnected world where all of your information can be stolen with the press of a button -- have we learned nothing from Watch Dogs!?

Check out the FAQ page on Ubisoft's official website for more details.
