Garry’s Mod creators + STALKER + DayZ = Rust

Facepunch Studios, the developers that made Garry's Mod, has a new open-world survival game called Rust***Gameplay video below***

According to the developer's siteRust began as a DayZ clone. When they got sick of fighting zombies, and they realized they "couldn't compete with the Arma island in terms of landmarks and towns", they created a more "STALKER kind of world where you build your own buildings." That also removed the zombie restriction, where there could now be mutants, wolves and other types of enemies, with other players always the biggest threat.

There's no rules in place in Rust that dictates player behavior. Players aren't discouraged from killing other players. Facepunch Studios Garry Newman wrote, "For example some people want us to implement something to discourage people killing each other. Some kind of rating. Or turn killers red to warn you they can't be trusted.

"I hate that. It's not giving players freedom. The players should decide how they want to play the game. You should be fearful of others. That is the whole point. This is a game where the player makes their own story… and emotion plays into it a lot."

The only thing stopping it from becoming a PVP killfest where players kill each other and take their sh*t is you. Garry wrote that they're giving players the tools they need. "If you're sick of getting killed — start a town. Build town walls. Give all the town members red clothes. Put warning signs up outside the town. Set up trip wires and alarms. Watch each others back."

You need to adapt. If people dress up in red and sneak into your town, start a secret handshake. Another town trying to invade yours? Build stronger defenses or don't let them get strong enough to take you down.

For now, the game is on the web so it's easier to update. They hope to see a release on Steam as some point, but right now it's too early for that.
