Blizzard responds to Titan MMO rumored delays

Blizzard has issued an official response to rumors that its to-be-announced massively multiplayer game, codenamed Titan, has been rebooted and delayed. Yesterday it was reported by VentureBeat that 70% of the development team (of which there are allegedly 100 developers) have been reassigned to other projects, leaving the remaining core members of the team to start over from scratch. The result is a delay until 2016, even though there was never any official release date to begin with.

In response to the rumor, Blizzard provided the following statement to GameZone:

"We've always had a highly iterative development process, and the unannounced MMO is no exception. We've come to a point where we need to make some large design and technology changes to the game. We're using this opportunity to shift some of our resources to assist with other projects while the core team adapts our technology and tools to accommodate these new changes. Note that we haven’t announced any dates for the MMO."

The development of Titan stretches back to nearly six years ago. Back in September we heard that Titan was "dead in the middle of development," with still plenty of work left on the MMO. Blizzard has never been known for its speedy development, but perhaps we'll hear more about the game at BlizzCon 2013.
