Beyond: Two Souls set to release in October, Willem Dafoe joins the cast
Quantic Dream's PlayStation 3 exclusive Beyond: Two Souls will be released on October 8, 2013 in North America, according to Sony. Beyond: Two Souls, announced all the way back at E3 2012, is a psychological action thriller starring Oscar nominee Ellen Page (Inception, Juno) as the lead role of Jodie Holms, a young woman who’s known since birth that she is "different from everyone else."
"Jodie possesses supernatural powers through her psychic link to an invisible entity she calls Aiden, and this gift has changed her life forever." Beyond has been described as an emotional journey that will take you through 15 years of Jodie's life, where you'll experience "the most striking moments of her life." Along the way you'll discover more about what's beyond our world.
The release date comes alongside news that Spider-Man actor William Dafoe, also an Oscar nominee, will join the game's cast. Dafoe, who was previously rumored to be part of the cast, will play Nathan Dawkins, "a government scientist who works with Jodie to analyze her powers." Sony didn't go into too much depth about the character, but did say that Nathan and Jodie will form a "compelling bond and together deliver some of the most unique and powerful scenes yet seen in gaming."
Sony has released a brand new gameplay trailer showcasing an early scene from the game in which Nathan first meets a young Jodie who is actually played by a child actress (not Ellen Page). There's also an interview with Willem talking about his role in the game.
Beyond: Two Souls' October release puts it near the launch of the recently announced PlayStation 4, which is expected during the holiday 2013 season. Does this mean we could see Beyond: Two Souls on the PS4? I certainly hope so. I'd love to see David Cage's work as a launch title for a new console. As of right now, though, the game is only confirmed as a PS3 exclusive.
