NewsUbisoft: Wii U GamePad a 'natural fit' for Watch Dogs
Unlike last generation's Wii, the Wii U won't miss out on any features that players on other consoles get -- at least when it comes to Watch Dogs. In fact, when it comes to Ubisoft's upcoming open-world adventure, the Wii U's GamePad controller lends itself to the game's emphasis on hacking into Chicago's central operating system.
While the exact functionality of the GamePad has yet to be decided, Ubisoft Montreal Senior Producer Dominic Guay acknowledged the GamePad is a "natural fit" for Watch Dogs' theme of hacking with mobile devices. "We're still investigating how we'll use the tablet on the Wii U, but with the things I mentioned before, for us it's not going to be a weird stretch."
"It's natural. What's really cool with Watch Dogs, when we start thinking of those devices, it's not a weird abstraction, it's not like I'm a space alien and now I'm using a tablet. Why am I doing that?"
"Aiden Pearce is using a device to control the city, so it's quite easy to imagine what we could do with that," Guay concluded. Last week, Ubisoft showed off brand new gameplay footage of Watch Dogs during the PS4 event. In the official press release, it was confirmed that the game would also be a Wii U title. Right off the bat, I have several ideas of how Ubisoft can cleverly incorporate the GamePad. And for anyone who has played ZombiU, you already know they are capable of coming up with some pretty great ideas for the Wii U's unique controller.
