NewsHere's what the PS4's DualShock 4 controller officially looks like up close
While Sony didn't give us a look at the actual PS4 console during tonight's reveal, they did unveil the official PlayStation 4 controller, dubbed the DualShock 4. They even supplied us with official product shots, giving us an up close look at the fine details. You thought it looked good during the presentation? It looks even better up close.
The controller has been significantly redesigned from past iterations. Aside from the basic outline and button arrangement, the controller looks much smoother thanks to some more rounded edges. There also appears to be some sort of grip on the back, which looks pretty comfortable.
The changes weren't all aesthetic, though. The overall functionality of the DualShock controller has been redesigned to suit the needs of those making games for the system. As noted during the conference, there's a tighter sense of control, enhanced rumble functions, and a reduction to latency. The biggest feature is the addition of the front touchpad in the center to allow for more options and control. There's also a light bar that will work with a second peripheral -- a sensor that will observe your movements from afar. Yes, photos of the sensor bar were provided as well.
The DualShock 4 is a pretty sexy controller. It's sleek, it's smooth, and best of all, not too different from what we are used to. I can't wait to hold one of these puppies in my hand.
