NewsTime Warner: Next Batman Arkham game due out this year
Remember all the way back in December 2011, when the Joker teased a sequel to Batman: Arkham City? We eventually wrote it off as nothing more than a playful joke on behalf of Rocksteady and Warner Bros., but there could be some validity to it after all. During Time Warner's investor call last weak, CFO and chief administrative officer John K. Martine revealed the next installment of the Batman Arkham franchise is due to be released this year. In all likelihood, it probably won't be called Arkham World, as the Joker titled it, but either way this is some great news.
It doesn't look like Martin spent much time, briefly mentioning the new game. According to the full transcript of the investor call (via Yahoo! Finance), here's how it all went down:
"And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.”
At this point it's unclear whether Martin is referring to the end of the 2013 calendar year or fiscal year. We've reached out to Warner Bros. for further clarification.
I can't say this comes as much of a surprise to me. Given the favorable reception of Batman: Arkham City, it was inevitable that another game would be made. Let's just hope it lives up to its predecessors.
