Obsidian wants to pitch a Star Wars game to Disney

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 – The Sith Lords was quite a success when it launched on Xbox and PC back in 2004 and 2005. It makes all the sense in the world then that developer Obsidian wants to make a new Star Wars game, a goal that has prompted the studio to pitch an idea for a new game to franchise owner Disney.

It's clear that this wasn't just a quick thought on the part of Obsidian. Quite the contrary, actually. The developer seems to have put a lot of thought into the direction it would take a new Star Wars game. Given the vast lore of the series, there's definitely a lot the studio can do. "There’s a lot of different eras in Star Wars, and that’s what we would focus on," said Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart in a statement to Rock Paper Shotgun.

"We pitched a between-Episode 3 and Episode 4 game [to LucasArts]," continued Urquhart. "Because we think that timeframe is super interesting. It’s the fall of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi, it’s Obi-Wan going off and making sure Luke is okay. You have the Sith, but you have the extermination of all Force users except for very, very few. So it was an interesting time to set a game, and you know, Chris Avellone came up with a really cool story."

While Obsidian hasn't actually taken the pitch to Disney just yet, it hopes to do so soon. "It’s something we’re still hoping for, even with the Disney/Lucas stuff going on,” explained Urquhart. “It changes things a lot, but you know, we’re gonna push on it. I would say it’s within the top three pitches we’ve ever come up with."
