NewsRumor: PS4 will cost about $400
A new report from the Asahi Shimbun, one of the largest newspapers in Japan, has run a story claiming the new PlayStation, presumably the PS4, will be priced at over 40,000 yen, or about $430.
While it's still on the pricier end of consoles, its certainly cheaper than the launch price of the PlayStation 3. Back in 2006 the PS3 was priced at around 60,000 yen, and sold in the U.S. for a whopping $599. Obviously, a $200 difference between the PS4 and PS3 could help with sales, but it's still not cheap.
Keep in mind, this is only what we're hearing from one Japanese outlet. Until Sony announces something official it remains speculation. The company is expected to reveal the PlayStation 4 at an event later this month (Feb. 20), but I wouldn't expect pricing details just yet.
