NewsPS4 abandoning DualShock controller in favor of LCD touch screen
After 16 years, Sony may finally be parting with its DualShock controller. New reports indicate that Sony's next console -- presumably the PlayStation 4 -- will use a new type of controller that features biometric sensors on the grips and an LCD touch screen.
According to CVG, a senior games studio source working on an upcoming Sony game has claimed the PS4's controller has seen "numerous" iterations, few resembling the DualShock controller that we've been accustomed to since the original PlayStation in 1997. The latest version, the source says, is more of a PS4 "pad".
Another source allegedly said PlayStation engineers are "trying to emulate the same user interface philosophies as the PS Vita", which the inclusion of an LCD touch screen seems to hint. The PS4's touch-screen capabilities indicate that Sony is looking to tightly integrate is PS4 home console and its portable PS Vita. This idea is further strengthened by recent initiatives like the Cross-Buy promotion for certain games.
CVG suggests that existing PS3 controllers will still work with the new console, however. Are you sad to see the DualShock controller go or is it time?
