NewsTina Fey in negotiations to star as female lead in Disney's 'The Muppets' sequel
I swear to god, if Tina Fey joins the cast of The Muppets sequel, it will be the best Muppets movie -- nay, make that best movie -- of all-time. Sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that Tina Fey is in late-stage negotiations to join the cast of Disney's sequel to The Muppets as the female lead. Fey would be joining Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell as the human stars of the movie, which will take place in Europe.
The trio would be the funniest group of actors to appear in a Muppets movie. Fey worked with Gervais in 2009's The Invention of Lying, and is also hosting the Golden Globes on Sunday with Amy Poehler -- which Gervais did last year. The Muppets sequel would ad to Fey's impressive work load, which includes her as the Emmy-winning star and creator of 30 Rock on NBC and the upcoming comedy Admission with Paul Rudd.
As for The Muppets sequel, James Bobin is returning to direct the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller. The Producers of Muppets -- David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman -- are also returning to produce the sequel.
We'll keep you updated if any progress is made or if negotiations fall apart. The Muppets sequel will begin shooting in London this month.
