NewsJohn Carmack guarantees Xbox 720, PS4 will target 30 fps
Legendary game developer John Carmack has said that games on next-gen consoles, presumably the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4, will target 30 frames per second. Carmack is the co-founder of id Software and has worked on many classic games including Doom, Quake, and Rage. Basically, he's kind of a big deal. And if he says next-gen games are targeting 30 fps, I tend to believe him.
"Unfortunately, I can pretty much guarantee that a lot of next gen games will still target 30 fps," Carmack told a follower on Twitter when asked his thoughts on using 30FPS in next-gen titles.
If true, this is obviously a disappointment to many gamers who were hoping next-gen consoles would finally catch up to PC games in terms of the amazing graphics quality that only high-end PC games are able to achieve with optimal settings.
Sony and Microsoft are already flirting with a fine line with their next-gen consoles. Rumors about the Xbox 720 and PS4 have been circulating for quite a while now with speculation ranging from processing power to anti-used game technology. Until we hear something official, like a reveal announcement, from Sony or Microsoft everything remains speculation.
Still, the thought of 30 fps has to worry gamers who are already fed up with low frame rates on consoles vs PC. Would you still get a next-gen console if it ran at 30 fps?
