As we previously expected, a new trailer for Naughty Dog's The Last of Us premiered tonight during the 2012 Video Game Awards, revealing a May 7, 2013 release date for the highly anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusive.
The Last of Us is a survival-action title set in a post-apocalyptic world. Following some sort of fungal-related outbreak, much of the population was infected and turned into pseudo-zombie creatures. Players assume the role of Joel, a 40-something year old black marketeer with a dark past who has been paid to smuggle 17-year old Ellie out of a quarantined safe zone guarding survivors from the virus outbreak.
Tonight's trailer revealed more of the plot and showed all-new gameplay. Prior to tonight, Naughty Dog described the father-daughter-like relationship between Joel and Ellie as a primary focus of the game.
