Microsoft's Major Nelson has revealed that more than 750,000 Xbox 360 units were sold in the United States alone during the Black Friday weekend last week - exceeding internal forecasts. Additionally, three month Xbox LIVE Gold Subscription sales increased more than 50% compared to last year's Black Friday week.

Comparatively, Nintendo sold just 400,000 Wii U units during the week of Black Friday — though supply shortages are said to have affected the sales potential of Nintendo's new console which launched on November 18th in the United States. Meanwhile, the 3DS and DS sold 250,000 and 275,000 units, respectively. In total, Nintendo moved 1.2 million hardware units — Wii U, Wii, 3DS, and DS all included — during the Black Friday weekend.

We are still awaiting reports from Sony to do a three-way comparison. It does, however, look like the ol' Xbox 360 has some life in it after all. Maybe consumers aren't quite ready for new consoles just yet.
