No universal achievements/accomplishments for the Wii U?

According to 5th Cell's co-founder Jeremiah Slaczka, Nintendo's new Wii U console will not have a universal achievement, or accomplishment system, analogous to the PlayStation Network's Trophies or Xbox LIVE's Achievements.

Responding to fans on NeoGAF, Slaczka wrote, "There are no Wii U accomplishments that are system-wide."

Rather, it seems to be "up to the developers to include or not include" individual, game-based accomplishments, which appears to be the route 5th Cell took with Scribblenauts Unlimited on the Wii U.

"Scribblenauts Unlimited loosely has them in the form of "Global Starite Shards" which is like a giant checklist of global things to spawn and do in the game that aren't area specific," Slaczka explained.

The Wii U's November 18th launch is now less than a week away, but many questions about the Wii U still remain. Last week, Nintendo did answer a few questions during its Nintendo Direct presentation. The Wii U will require a day-one update to access its many network services, but it doesn't look like it has anything to do with an as-yet-unannounced accomplishments system.
