Running time of 'The Hobbit' makes it the shortest Middle-Earth film yet

Posted by: Lance Liebl

In the Empire magazine The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey edition, Peter Jackson gave a bunch of new details for fans of the film. He told Empire that "It's going to be about ten minutes shorter than Fellowship was. So it's going to be officially our shortest Middle Earth yet... [It] is about two hours and forty minutes at the moment." That time is without the credits and certain visual effects that have to be addes, so the theatrical run tim will increase by a bit.

In comparison to Peter Jackson's other Middle-Earth films, here's how they stack up:

  • The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - 2 hours 58 minutes
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - 2 hours 59 minutes
  • The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - 3 hours 21 minutes
  • The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - 2 hours 48 minutes (as of now)
