NewsUbisoft censors American deaths in latest Assassin's Creed 3 trailer
As Ubisoft has been hyping Assassin's Creed 3 these past few months, they've repeatedly us that we won't only be fighting British soldiers in the game, but also American colonists. However, all — or at least most — of the trailers released to us have shown Connor fighting off and brutally killing the British.
Apparently, that's because Ubisoft has keeping the American killing censored from us here in the United States. As spotted by Kotaku, yesterday's Assassin's Creed 3 trailer actually had two versions — a U.S. one and a UK one — each roughly the same in concept, but varying slightly in execution. The difference is about 30 seconds in length with one crucial scene omitted in the U.S. version — a shot of Connor quickly and brutally slaughtering a squad of colonial Americans. It happens around 2:09 and it's really not that big of a deal, but Ubisoft sure seems to think so.
The scene fits perfectly with what's being said in the trailer, how Connor is torn between his Native American roots and helping the colonists fight against the British. However, it appears Ubisoft thinks Americans can't handle seeing our own ancestors killed.
Whatever the reason behind the censorship, I think everyone should watch the UK version simply because it's better...and I hate censorship. Looks like there's a lot we don't really know about the upcoming Assassin's Creed 3 game, mostly it not being as pro-America as we previously thought.
You can watch the censored American version here. Do you think Ubisoft should have hidden the deaths from us?
