Though Monster Hunter has never endured mega-popularity in the states, the cult favorite action RPG continues to thrive in Japan, with the releases eventually trickling out to Western gamers. So, though its been six months since Monster Hunter 3G dropped for the 3DS in glorious Nippon, we finally have a release date slated for North America: March of 2013. Not only that, but the game will drop alongside the newly announced Wii U port, and allow hunters to transfer their save data between the two platforms. Very cool.

The game will be rebranded for Western audiences as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and though it looks like little more than a souped up port of the Wii's Monster Hunter Tri, the portability (and save data transfer) will be a definite hook. Its unlikely to be a major system seller, but those desperate for some hunting action will surely be pre-ordering the title. Also, seeing as how the Classic Controler Pro launched alongside Monster Hunter Tri, we're assuming MH3U will utilize the Wii U's pro controller as well.

We'll have more information on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate as it becomes available. Here's hoping for a Circle Pad Pro for 3DS XL Players!
