Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn trailer reminisces about Capture the Flag

Remember when capture the flag was a mere childhood game played among friends? So do the recruits in the new Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn trailer.

Released over the weekend, the new trailer for the live-action Halo 4 mini-series, which is set to premiere on October 5, shows two recruits as they "share their memories of childhood, when 'Capture the Flag' was just a game with less deadly stakes". Now at the Corbulo Academy of Military Science, these cadets are using the skills they learned as kids for their training exercises to simulate combat missions.

For anyone who's played Halo's multiplayer, I'm sure your familiar with how this ties into the game. Capture the Flag is a pretty popular mode, and just last week 343 Industries released footage of Halo 4's Capture the Flag mode on the new Exile map.

As for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, it will consist of five episodes that tell the story of how Master Chief inspired a young UNSC cadet, Thomas Lasky, who will eventually become a leader aboard the UNSC Infinity Spacecraft. Debuting on October 5, 2012, it will be released in weekly installments leading up to the launch of Halo 4 on November 6.

Microsoft has reportedly spent around $5 to $10 million on production of Forward Unto Dawn. At its conclusion, each episode, roughly 15 minutes in length, will be collected, along with 15 minutes of additional footage, into a 90-minute feature film and released on DVD, Blu-ray, and in digital stores.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn will air on Machinima's YouTube channel or the Halo Waypoint site. Last week,
