News'The Avengers' alternate opening is online, and it's much darker
It looks like the release of The Avengers on Blu-ray and DVD is going to be just as big as the theatrical release. As the retail release gets closer, we're getting more and more clips of deleted scenes and gag reels online. It's doing an excellent job of giving fans a hint of what's going to be in the bonus features, as well as increasing hype. And for me, it's working.
The latest clip to make its way online was released by Marvel, and it's an alternate opening for the movie. Take a look at the scene below.
The alternate opening sets a much darker tone for the film, and ultimately, I'm happy they didn't go with it. I'm not a big fan of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill throwing Nick Fury and The Avengers under the bus, blaming them for the events that happened, because they are the ones that saved the world from invasion. It's cool to see other ideas that Joss Whedon had for the movie, but I feel like this opening doesn't really jive with the film we saw. And maybe if Agent Hill was a little better at her job, she would've stopped Hawkeye and Loki from taking the Tesseract at the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility. Just sayin', since we're throwing people under the bus.
Expect a few more clips to be released before the US release on September 25.
