Were you excited to hear that Joss Whedon is once again going to be at the helm of the next Avengers movie? Well, as expected, the movie won't be hitting theaters any time soon obviously. However, Disney/Marvel has put out an official statement which confirms the actual release date of Avengers 2.

That date ladies and gentlemen, is May 1, 2015. My that's quite specific. This will give you more than enough time to catch up on any Avengers lore, past superhero movies you might have missed, and comic books to read through so you're more than prepared for when the not yet titled Avengers 2 movie hits theaters.

The official statement from Disney/Marvel is as follows:

"The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the biggest Super Hero blockbuster and third highest grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers. Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the UNTITLED MARVEL’S AVENGERS SEQUEL set for release May 1, 2015."
