NewsAssassin's Creed 3 'Wolf Pack' mode introduces co-op multiplayer
Assassin's Creed 3's previously leaked online co-op feature will be a new mode titled "Wolf Pack".
Revealed at Comic-Con, Wolf Pack allows up to four players to work together to assassinate NPC targets. The wave-based missions grow in difficulty over time as you and three others will race to eliminate your mark - or marks - against the clock. Players will have to work together and communicate to reach the higher levels. There are 25 waves of targets offered, each with progressing difficulty.
While the wave-based format may sound a little like "Horde mode", or any other third person game that now offers wave-based co-op play, Assassin's Creed 3's Wolf Pack will function similar to that of previous Assassin's Creed titles. You and your friends will have a certain allotted time to track down your target using the circular direction HUD. Stylish or stealthy kills will reward you with bonus XP points which, in turn, can be used to unlock new characters, changes, and costumes.
It's not as easy as it sounds, however. NPCs can fight back; there are decoys and lookouts. If you do get thrown to the ground, your co-op buddies will have to help you up or get the kill themselves.
It's an interesting concept to add a co-op portion to multiplayer. I just hope it doesn't feel tacked on to the game just for the sake of allowing players to team up. If done well, it could be really fun, and it looks like Ubisoft has really thought this one out.
Earlier at Comic-Con, creative director Alex Hutchinson revealed the PC version of Assassin's Creed 3 will be available "near the time of the console launch".
