NewsX-Men actor Fassbender to co-produce and star in Assassin's Creed film
X-Men: First Class and Prometheus star Michael Fassbender is joining the cast of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed film as co-producer and actor.
According to Variety, Fassbender will play the franchise's lead assassin, but which one? Previous reports have indicated the film will adapt the original game, so Altair is a likely bet.
"Michael Fassbender was our first choice," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures in Paris. "Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor."
The actor will co-produce the movie with his own company, DMC Film. Sony may end up distributing the film, but talks will resume after UMP decides on a writer and director.
UMP is hoping to avoid the financial flop of other adaptations like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (which earned a disappointing $335 million altogether and only $91 million in the US) by controlling more of the creative process. The company is also planning a Raving Rabbids animated show for Nickelodeon and later intends to develop films for Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon.
