NewsPhilip Seymour Hoffman to play Head Gamemaker in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'
What was rumored for what seems like forever, Lionsgate and the people making The Hunger Games: Catching Fire have announced that Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast in the upcoming film as Plutarch Heavensbee, the Head Gamemaker in Catching Fire. This announcement comes days after it was announced actress Jena Malone has been cast to play Johanna Mason, a tribute that wields axes. Catching Fire also has a new director on-board, with Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine) at the helm.
Philip Seymour Hoffman join an already impressive cast, and he should fit in quite nicely. Since the time it was first rumored that he would be playing Plutarch Heavensbee, I thought it was a perfect choice. I really can't wait to see how the make-up team transforms him into both Head Gamemaker and one of District 1's wealthy inhabitants.
The story of Catching Fire continues where The Hunger Games left off. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have returned home after winning the 74th Hunger Games. Now they must go on a Victor's Tour around the different districts, where Katniss witnesses things that seem like a rebellion is brewing. Things are about to change for Katniss and company, as President Snow announces what lies in store for the 75th Annual Hunger Games, called the Quarter Quell. The Quarter Quell always has something unique and special to it, and this time there's a catch that can change Panem forever.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is set to release November 22, 2013.
