Epic Games is doing 4th of July right...celebrating America's freedom by offering a special 4th of July Double XP event in Gears of War 3 - with an added Top Gun twist. Beginning today, there will be double XP in Versus, Beast, and Horde mode.

In addition, there is a special "Top Wingman" playlist with alpha rules. According to Epic Games, the game mode will allow you to select a special weapon skin - all Top Gun themed - per 5 starting weapons. And seeing as how Top Gun is one of the top 10 best movies to watch on the 4th of July, I'd say Epic got it right.

Below is the full list of weapon skins available during this event:

• Maverick – Lancer
• Viper – Retro Lancer
• Goose – Hammerburst
• Iceman – Gnasher
• Jester – Sawed Off

Of course, we all know what happens when you use the Goose skin....

The 4th of July Double XP event has already begun, but Epic did not reveal the date for when it will end. If you have some spare time tomorrow, you may want to check out these 5 games to play on the 4th of July as well.
