Sony obtains Gaikai for a solid $380 million

The cloud-based gaming platform Gaikai has been acquired by Sony Computer Entertainment for $380 million.  While Geikai was looking for a solid $500 million, SCE successfully snaked the service for way less than what was desired.

Sony Computer Entertainment’s president, Andrew House, stated that this new cloud service will allow new users, “to instantly enjoy a broad array of content ranging from immersive core games with rich graphics to casual content anytime, anywhere on a variety of internet-connected devices."  How SOE will incorporate this new cloud platform with their already existing technology should prove to be interesting.  "By combining Gaikai's resources including its technological strength and engineering talent with SCE's extensive game platform knowledge and experience, SCE will provide users with unparalleled cloud entertainment experiences."

Ultimately, "SCE has built an incredible brand with PlayStation and has earned the respect of countless millions of gamers worldwide."  Anything that can gain a gamers respect has to be good, that’s no easy task.  I for one am curious to see where this cloud union leads SCE.
