NewsLayoffs hit Obsidian, next-gen project cancelled
Earlier this morning, Obsidian, the folks behind Fallout and the upcoming South Park RPG, announced that it is laying off an officially undisclosed number of employees. According to an initial report by Joystiq though, 20-30 employees are receiving pink slips due to unknown reasons.
In addition to the layoffs, Joystiq's report stated that the developer is also cancelling a "next-gen" project that was in its early production stages. Obsidian has faced several layoffs this month including: New Vegas lead producer Frank Kowalkowski, level designer Casey Kwock, artist Jason Sereno, level designer Dini McMurray, artist J.D. Cerince, animator Andre Nguyen, and lead producer Jason Fader.
While Obsidian layed off a number of employees during the spring of last year as well, these layoffs are affecting current projects, and could impact these title's development massively. Hopefully these fine producers and designers will find new homes; we wish them the best.
