Mass Effect 3's frequent dips into the 20FPS range on the PS3 during the demo hasn't improved since the game's release, according to Digital Foundry.

Eurogamer's techies have provided an in-depth framerate analysis of Mass Effect 3's final code on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, concluding that the game performs better on the Xbox 360.

Digital Foundry says the PS3 version of Mass Effect 3 is "capped at 30 frames per second with v-sync engaged, but tends to drop to 20FPS in outdoors environments, and sometimes even lower during cut scenes."

The analysis does mention that the Xbox 360 also dips during similar points, but not quite as low as the PS3 counterpart.

"The action remains v-synced, though the odd, unnoticeable tear may occur at the very top of the screen when the engine is under stress," DF explains.  "As far as traversal gameplay goes, the 360 only shows occasional blips in visual feedback, as opposed to the more regular stretches of 20FPS gameplay we can see on PS3."

The final conclusion is "the game seems better optimized for Xbox 360, holding out closer to the target frame-rate with some almost unnoticeable tearing."
