Mario Galaxy surpasses 5 million sales because it’s awesome

Never one to shy away from its successes, Nintendo announced via press release that Super Mario Galaxy had just surpassed the 5 million sales mark. That's an impressive number, and one that's certainly cause for some bragging on the part of the Big N. Super Mario Galaxy is now one of nine elite titles to sell over 5 million copies.

There's no denying that those sales figures make absolute sense. Super Mario Galaxy is easily one of the best games on the Wii, and it's one of the best modern 3D platformers, rivaled only by its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2. The game's lovely soundtrack and beautiful visuals blended perfectly with the flawless 3D platforming to deliver an experience that was the best since the legendary Super Mario 64.

Nintendo threw some more sales figures out there. Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 both turned out over 100,000 copies in sales in February, while Pokemon Black and White jumped the 4 million sales mark. Additionally, the Wii, 3DS, and DS all delivered 228,000, 262,000, and 135,000 in sales, respectively.

For a company that was in a bit of a slump, Nintendo sure has had some impressive sales. Here's hoping the rise continues so we can keep getting stellar titles the likes of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and Pokemon Black and White. In other words, here's to more awesome games!
