Could Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter actually happen?

Could Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter actually happen? We know gamers want it.  We know Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has expressed interest, as has Yoshinori Ono.

And most recently we have a tweet from Ed Boon to Capcom's Seth Killian, hinting about a MK vs SF meeting.

Boon tweeted, "Looking forward to our first MKvsSF meeting. 1st order of business: MKvsSF or SFvsMK. ;)"

Now in all honesty, this was probably a joke, but is it THAT unrealistic to expect a Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter crossover fighting game?  These days, anything is possible.

It's not like Mortal Kombat hasn't been been featured in a crossover game.  Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was released in 2008, though many would agree it was a subpar game.  The game removed Mortal Kombat's traditional gore to get a Teen rating.  If a MK vs SF does happen, it's good to know Killian supports the M rating.

"Rated M game or GTFO we don't need another MKvsDC lol," Killian joked back.

Crossovers for the Street Fighter franchise are nothing new, however. It has been featured in a ton of Versus series like Marvel vs. Capcom, Street Fighter X Tekken, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, to name a few.

What could be keeping Mortal Kombat from a crossover with Street Fighter is perhaps the game's brutal combat.  Mortal Kombat is known for it's gory fatalities and more brutal fighting, while Street Fighter is a little less aggressive.

While the tweet from Boon was most likely a joke between industry friends, the possibility is always out there - as is the support from fans who have been dying for a crossover game between the two.
