After Sony's PlayStation Vita Japan sales fell to an all-time low for the week ending January 22nd, the handheld console sort of rebounded in week 4.  Up from the previous 15,000 units, the PS Vita sold close to 19,000 units for the week spanning January 23rd to the 29th.

To be exact, the PlayStation Vita sold 18,942 units, finally surpassing Sony's former handheld, the PSP.  Despite an increase of nearly 4,000 units, the Vita was unable to outsell the PS3 and the Nintendo 3DS, which has been red hot in Japan.

Where as most consoles saw a decline in sales in week 3, week 4 was the exact opposite as most reported an increase.

The Nintendo 3DS finished with 84,789 units sold while the PS3 finished with 22,924.  Below is the full hardware chart for the week spanning January 23rd to the 29th.

1. 3DS: 84,789 (80,960)
2. PS3: 22,924 (21,155)
3. PSV: 18,492 (15,219)
4. PSP: 16,008 (17,181)
5. Wii: 10,396 (10,173)
6. NDS: 1,918 (2,022)
7. Xbox 360: 1,235 (1,519)
8. PS2: 713 (903)

It should also be noted that the PS Vita finally had a successful software debut with Namco Bandai's Tales of Innocence R selling 53,853 copies.  Other than that, no other Vita game made the top 20 in sales.

The leading sellers were PS3 game Armored Core V which sold 163,906 units and Resident Evil: Revelations which sold 146,559 units.  Some other notable performers include 3DS games Mario Kart 7 and Monster Hunter 3G which have both sold over 1 million copies since launch.
