NewsNeatherRealm looking at developing more than just Mortal Kombat games
In a time when many developers and publishers are looking to develop more of the same to ensure success, NeatherRealm studios, most famous for the Mortal Kombat franchise, is looking beyond their popular fighting series.
In an interview with GameSpot, creative director Ed Boon admitted that he'd be "surprised" if they never released another Mortal Kombat game again, but did admit to wanting to do "more than just make Mortal Kombat games."
"We want our studio to do more than just make Mortal Kombat games," he said. "We love making them but we also want to do different types of games. Different genres, different IPs."
What Boon was possibly referring to was more iOS development. The studio recently released Arkham City Lockdown for iOS devices, which Boon referred to as "us dipping our foot into that whole different types of games to do."
"We're going to continue in that direction, but I would be surprised if we never did another Mortal Kombat game again."
Before we go and predict a Mortal Kombat game for iOS, Boon refrained from speculating about any such thing. During the interview, Boon said the company has nothing to announced, but was looking to "diversify" themselves. Given the success of Mortal Kombat, selling over 3 million copies to date, they might not want to diversify themselves too much. It was announced earlier this month that Mortal Kombat will be coming to the PlayStation Vita in Spring 2012, but the studio's plans after that remain a mystery.
