In case you weren't aware, in Japan, downloadable versions of retail titles on the PlayStation Vita are offered at a discounted cost to consumers. That's pretty awesome, and it certainly makes sense since you're not actually paying for a disc, manual, and shiny case. We've been wondering if Sony's latest handheld gaming device would support lower price tags for downloadable games here in North America, and now we have an answer.

As it turns out, we will be getting the sweet deal on our side of the planet, as well. You may now rest easy, future downloadable game buyers. The information was confirmed by Sony in a statement to Shack News. Though the Sony rep who revealed the info didn't give any details, it's good to know that this will be a thing here in North America.

"I can confirm that there will be a discount on the downloadable PS Vita titles from PSN," said the Sony rep. "Exact details have not yet been revealed, but be on the lookout for an announcement in the very near future."

So there you have it, folks. It's official. Good thing, too, because this is something that should definitely not be exclusive to any particular region. Also, this kind of ensures that when I get a Vita, I'll probably be buying nothing but downloadable titles. Hey, I have to be thrifty, right?
