NewsWii U rumored to be 'twice as powerful' as Xbox 360
According to a studio source, Nintendo's Wii U console will be roughly twice as powerful as the Xbox 360. Speaking to Develop, the anonymous source, from a "studio currently building a Wii U title", said the Wii U could achieve twice the processing and graphical potential of Microsoft's current console.
If true, this would be above market expectations, but the source did acknowledge it was less than some studios had expected.
“I've heard [a project designer] complain it's underpowered compared to what Nintendo announced, resulting in people having to de-scale their plans,” the source added.
According to Develop, the source's claim was made last year. While it's definitely nice to see some rough estimates about the specs, Nintendo's strict non-disclosure agreements make it difficult to be 100% certain. So with that being said, I urge you to take this rumor for what it is - a rumor.
Speaking of rumors, just yesterday a separate inside source indicated that the Xbox 720 will be even more powerful - about "six times as powerful" as the Xbox 360 and yielding "20% greater performance than the Wii U."
All rumors aside, the only thing we can be certain of is that the Wii U is the only confirmed upcoming console.
