Kid Icarus: Uprising compatible with Circle Pad Pro
Kid Icarus: Uprising designer Masahiro Sakurai dropped a bombshell on 3DS owners everywhere. In an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, Sakurai revealed that the upcoming 3DS game would feature ... analog nub support! Of course, this isn't meant to add analog functionality for aiming controls. Instead, it lets left-handed gamers enjoy Uprising just as much as us right-handed folks.
"The way we are using the Circle Pad Pro in the game is to provide support for left-handed gamers," explained the designer. "We've made it possible to use the right Circle Pad in place of the left one."
Uprising requires gamers to control protagonist Pit using the 3DS circle pad, while aiming is performed using the stylus and touch screen. Because this may take some getting used to for left-handed gamers, Sakurai ensures that the Circle Pad Pro eliminates any troublesome situations and allows gamers to control Pit with the Circle Pad Pro to the right while using the stylus with their left hand.
According to Sakurai, his team didn't work with the analog nub until recently, so it would be impossible to build the Uprising around the add-on. He also stated that he wanted the game to feature touch controls. "Even if we had known about it from the start, I don't know whether we would have used both Circle Pads in that way," stated Sakurai. "This would end up being just the same as controls on any other platforms and I think the quick aiming possible with the touch panel suits the game best."
