NewsJaffe says players will be "sorely disappointed" by Twisted Metal campaign
David Jaffe is a very interesting game developer, a surprisingly open invidividual who always speaks his mind, even when his comments have the potential to damage his game's own reputation! On Twitter, Jaffe spoke to fans about the single-player campaign of his upcoming reboot of the Twisted Metal franchise. His honest opinion? It's... ok:
“To keep expectations in check, know this: the bosses are super cool, I think the stories/cutscenes/game fiction is really very cool, and the campaign is more varied than any other Twisted Metal we’ve ever made BUT if you go in expecting a campaign the likes of Batman: Arkham City, Skyrim, Gears of War, Killzone 3, etc…you will be sorely disappointed.” Jaffe's comments are overall not too shocking, given that the most exciting aspect of Twisted Metal has always been the ability to gun down your friends. Still, you can imagine that Sony's PR people are happy with a game's developer speaking negative on any aspect of a title, especially when he suggests "If you are buying the new Twisted Metal ONLY or MOSTLY for campaign, might I suggest a rental?"
I think I just heard a brand manager's head explode.
Frankly, we appreciate Jaffe's honesty, and if anything he's convinced us of the strength of the multiplayer if he's willing to bank all his money on that alone. We'll be looking to smash up our friends when the game releases February 14th.
