Square Enix used to be one of our favorite developers, though lately their portfolio has been looking a bit stale, with too many Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest spin-offs to count. However it seems the biggest name in role-playing could be branching out into new territory, as evidence by two trademarks filed recently in Japan.

Siliconera reports that Square has trademarked the titles Door of the Underworld and the Path of Nayuta and Root of the Underworld. Seems likely that the two games are related, perhaps the first being a full-fledged console release, with Root being some sort of portable tie-in. We'll be keeping our eyes on these two titles, which in a perfect world will be announced as Chrono Trigger sequels...
