Kindle Fire is Amazon's "Most Successful Product", Selling 1 Million Units a Week
Amazon has claimed that the Kindle Fire is "the most successful product we've ever launched."
Although they didn't reveal specific sales figures, Amazon did report that the giant online retailer has sold 1 million units every week. If that number is indeed accurate, and spans all the way back to launch, then it can be estimated that the Kindle Fire has sold over 10 million units total since its launch 11 weeks ago.
However, most have predicted Amazon to sell 4 to 6 million units by the end of this year.
Despite criticism of sluggish performance and lagging controls, the Kindle Fire looks to be the hot gift for 2011. Priced at only $199.99, it has been the iPad's biggest competitor. Both its functionality and affordable price have probably contributed to the Kindle Fire's reported success.
IHS iSuppli forecast that Amazon would sell nearly 4 million Kindle Fires this year, while others claimed Amazon will own 50% of the Android tablet market.
According to Bloomberg, IHS also said Amazon is currently losing money on every Kindle Fire tablet it sells, but Susquehanna Financial Group LLLP has said that each tablet may generate a total of $384 in revenue for the company, including money spent on books, videos, apps, and other content.
