NewsNew Pokemon Comic to be Announced at Jump Fiesta?
Given all the nonsensical junk that gets branded with the Pokemon logo, it would take some really crazy news to truly "surprise" us. Maybe if the next Pokemon game involved Michael Vick as a trainer (I don't care if I never get to fight the Elite Four, I have no interest in obtaining the man's "bloodsport badge"). So when we heard the a big Pokemon announcement was on the way, we shrugged. When we heard it would be revealed during the franchise's first appearance at Jump Fiesta, well, that got our attention.
Jump Fiesta is sponsored by Japanese comic publisher Shueisha, known best for their comic magazine Weekly Shonen Jump. Over the years countless classic manga franchises have been featured within their pages, including Dragonball, Yu-Gi-Oh, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and countless others. More importantly though, they have reguarly teamed up with game companies like Namco and Square-Enix in order to produce comic tie-ins to popular games. And with the Pokemon team attending for the first time, and a mystery reveal being promised, there's definitely reason to believe a new Pokemon comic is on the way.
This would be huge news, especially since previous Pokemon comics have been rather disapointing overall. However, with the weight of the Shonen Jump crew behind a Pokemon title, we could expect something a lot more interesting than the plodding formulaic cartoon series.
I nominate the team behind Death Note to write this one. What do you guys think?
