Mass Effect 3 Leaked Script Leads to Story Changes
In an Eurogamer interview with Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, BioWare co-founders, talked about altering the Mass Effect 3 script due to fan feedback from the leaked copy.
Last week there were two major Mass Effect 3 leaks. The first was an early demo of the game. Microsoft accidently put it live in the Xbox LIVE autumn dashboard update. Soon clips of the first 14 minutes of Mass Effect 3 appeared all over the internet. The second leak was the script of the game put up on a Russian website. Almost instantly fans were discussing the script in great detail. This discussion included spoilers and possible endings.
These discussions caught BioWare’s eye. Muzyka said, “We listen to our fans all of the time. We listen to them on the forums, their feedback from stories. We're reading it all. If we can get ideas out of it that will make the game better, sure. We're not adverse to taking feedback. That's part of our core values, is humility. Any time we get a good idea from fans... they're our audience. They keep us in business."
So I applaud BioWare for listening to its fans. The game developers advise ME fans to not attempt to ruin their ME3 experience through spoilers before the game comes out though. Also, the script that was leaked was by no means the final copy and even that is constantly under change. BioWare plans on having numerous surprises for even those who are constantly trying to learn the plot.
"What I would suggest to the fans is, we're going to make sure we deliver an awesome experience as we have in prior Mass Effect games. Don't spoil the story. The fun of the story is uncovering things and exploring and finding new points to adventure in. I hope they don't lose that joy of discovery."
Lastly, and most importantly, Muzyka said, "We're really proud with how it's shaping up. It's going to be the best Mass Effect yet.” I’m doing my best to keep the story fresh for release, and the fact that BioWare is constantly tweaking and making Mass Effect 3 better only excites me more.
