I wasn't the biggest fan of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011. Sure, the game was fun (dumb fun, to be honest), but the gameplay seemed to be a step back from the 2010 edition of the series, which was pretty good. WWE '12 looks to bring the fun back to wrestling games, and it's doing so by introducing some new mechanics and sprucing up the gameplay.

One feature I really enjoyed in SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 was the WWE Universe mode, which turned exhibition matches into a season of sorts that tracked your progress, set up rivalries, and built pay-per-views. It wasn't without its flaws, but it eliminated the need of pen and paper for gamers who wanted to create their own WWE programming. In a recent video feature, THQ revealed some of the new elements coming to the Universe mode in WWE '12.

The first thing that caught my attention was the new Superstar Draft. Gamers will be able to participate in an annual Draft that flows much like it does on TV. Basically, Raw and SmackDown Superstars will face each other, and the winner will get a Draft pick for his or her respective show.

There will also be more cutscenes (interference, rivalry, etc.), and gamers will be able to customize their shows and even resurrect the long-deceased WCW if they so choose to. WWE '12 is looking to introduce some compelling gameplay back into the series. As a longtime player of these games, I certainly think a revamp is in order. Here's hoping WWE '12 is the reboot the series needs.
