The much-anticipated Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim released tonight at exactly 12:01 AM ET.  As of right now fans on the East coast of the U.S. are at local retailers picking up their pre-ordered copies.  Meanwhile, the rest of the U.S. sits and waits for the clock to strike midnight local time.

While console gamers around the country must wait until midnight local time to pick up the game at various retailers, PC gamers should now be able to unlock the PC version of Skyrim via Steam.  Confirmed by Bethesda's Pete Hines yesterday, "In the US it's 12:01 ET on Steam."

This means fans eagerly awaiting Skyrim are now able to access the game before it's 11/11/11 release, giving them a full three hours ahead of console gamers.  For those who pre-loaded the game, they should now be able to play the game instantly.

Enjoy Skyrim, we sure did as evidenced by our review of the game.  Be sure to let us know your thoughts on the game.
