Skyrim Crushing the Steam Competition

11/11/11, the day Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim took over the world - or at least Steam.  Really though, who didn't see this coming?

According to Steam's player tracker, Skyrim saw a peak of 202,175 players online playing the game (a number that's only been growing as I refresh the stats page).  In comparison, the runner-up, Modern Warfare 3, only had a peak today of 78,161 players today.  That's right, Skyrim has more than doubled the second most played game on Steam today.  Of course, this doesn't come as much of a surprise.  Skyrim is heavily favored on the PC while many consider Call of Duty more of a console game.

What makes the stat even more impressive is that Skyrim has posted better stats then the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most popular games on Steam - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Counter-Strike, and Football Manager 2012.

Estimating from these numbers alone, I think it's safe to assume Skyrim has sold particularly well.  Releasing today, Skyrim has received rave reviews, combining for a Metacritic score of 95/100 from critics and 9.3 from users, many whom have presumably called out of work sick to experience the epicness of the game.  Be sure to check out our review of the game if you are one of the few still on the fence about the game.
