Forget the Plushy Dragonborn Helmets, This Is What You Should Wear When Playing Skyrim

During PAX Bethesda was handing out plushy, fleece (I think) Skyrim Dragonborn helmets.  If you haven't seen them, they look like this.

At the time, it was a great promotion, but after seeing this custom made Dragonborn helmet, it doesn't even compare.

Reddit user, "thegadgefish" posted an image of his $15 Dovahkiin helmet - a customized viking helmet modded with cardboard, hot glue, and good ol' American ingenuity.  Granted, I don't know if he's really American, but we like to claim everything as our own anyways so I'll go with it.

Below is an image of the fully modded Dovahkiin helmet.  It puts the plushy to shame.  TO SHAME!

Impressive, right?  Don't worry, thegadgetfish revealed just how he made this fine piece of quality crafted armor.

"I bought one of thsoe $10 viking helmets at the halloween store, and modded it with cardboard and lots of hot glue.  The trick is to smear hot glue all over the cardboard to hide the corrugated texture, and then paint over the glue."  Spoken like a true Skyrim fan.  You know he plays the game on PC.

As for the paint, he replied, "I just used really cheap acrylic paint (the 50 cent bottles). I painted a dark grey base first, and then lightly drybrushed a light grey in one direction to bring out the texture of the hot glue. After that dried, I painted white glue on it to seal it up, and then another very, very light layer of metallic grey paint on top."

There you have it.  The steps and details you need to make your very own Dragonborn helmet.  I must warn you, it was time consuming.  According to the creator he spent around 15 hours making it, that includes waiting for the glue and paint to dry.  I'd suggest starting now so you have it in time for when Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim arrives.
