NewsWarriors Orochi 3 to Feature Ninja Gaiden's Ryu
It's very interesting to see how Koei has evolved as a company. Once known exclusively for their complicated strategy games, they've slowly strayed from the path of hardcore realism, the Dynasty Warriors series reimagining the stone-faced rulers of China's Three Kingdoms era as flashy long-haired pretty boys who dance across the battlefield like horrifying murder acrobats. Warriors Orochi is the logical extension of their new willingness to play loose with history, the game's time-rift plotline bringing together both fabled Chinese warriors and Japanese samurai, both factions ready to kick some ass.
Koei assuredly owes some of their new approach to their recent merger with Tecmo, a company whose own games don't exactly reek of realism, the gravity-defying bosoms of the Dead or Alive series a notable offender. And with the third Warriors Orochi game now on the horizon, Koei is celebrating one of Tecmo's greatest characters with a spotlight in the title.
Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hayabusa will feature as a playable character in Warriors Orochi 3, cementing the series as pure fantasy. However, this is the kind of fantasy we like, as Ryu is perhaps the coolest ninja in all of gaming, and his devestating swordplay will lend itself perfectly to the game's cluttered battlefields. The only question is how Ryu will be able to perform, given how notably bloodless the 'Warriors' titles are. Whether this ninja will be content to slice away without the satisfying spray of blood his games are known for, remains to be seen.
