Ignition Pulls the Plug on WarDevil; 30 Laid Off

Sometimes game development becomes a bit too expensive, and oftentimes it becomes way too ambitious. Case in point — WarDevil.

After five years in development and several hangups, Ignition Entertainment is reported to have cancelled the project. With the cancellation came news of 30 layoffs at Ignition’s London studio, which a month ago seemed to be on the brink of closure.

While it’s horrible to see that so many people will be losing their jobs, it’s very difficult for most studios to justify working on a game for five years. Especially a project said to provide “Hollywood-grade visuals at 60FPS.”

It’s said that Ignition will be making to switch to a download-oriented company. In a statement released by the developer, they said, “Ignition’s London office is very much up and running and will serve as the the global headquarters for the company’s recently announced investment into digital distribution and publishing.”

According to website Develop Online], the group’s CEO, Vijay Chadha, has been missing in action for about three months “with many staff, possibly all of them, unaware of his whereabouts.”

What a chump.
