Beta Level Editor for Portal 2 Is Live

First Super Meat Boy, now Portal 2. The awesome folks over at Valve announced on their blog that Portal 2’s level editor was officially live. That means you can now let your mind run wild and create your very own test chambers in the world of Portal 2.

This is pretty sweet, and it’s certainly a nice extra for owners of the PC version of the game. The Portal 2 Authoring Tools, as Valve calls it, is a free download and can be accessed under “Tools” in your Steam account. Considering this feature includes all of the tools Valve had at their disposal to make Portal 2, you can rest assured that this a pretty robust editor.

Currently, the editor is still in its beta stages. Because of that, Valve needs to iron out some bugs and kinks. That also means the editor can crash at any moment and delete your custom stage before you get to save it. Let’s hope this is only a rare occurrence. It would be a shame for some nifty ideas to be wiped out entirely.

You can join two mailing lists to obtain the free editor, so be sure to register if you want to challenge other gamers with your twisted puzzles. And if you experience a crash or other glitch, be sure to let Valve know and they’ll address the issue in a timely manner as they continue to perfect this awesome new feature. For more information, be sure to check out the developer’s official blog post on the Portal 2 Authoring Tools.
