ID'S QUAKE III: TEAM ARENA(tm) SHIPS TO STORES
Activision's Highly Anticipated Mission Pack Available Week of Dec. 18, 2000
Mesquite, Texas - December 19, 2000 - Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and id Software(tm) unleashed QUAKE III: Team Arena(tm) to fraggers everywhere the week of December 18, 2000, as the game shipped to retail. The first expansion pack to be developed by id Software since the Master Levels for DOOM(tm), QUAKE III: Team Arena brings three new advanced team play modes, new weapons and an all new user interface to QUAKE III Arena's addictive deathmatch experience. The title carries a suggested retail price of $29.99.
"QUAKE III: Team Arena fuses the intensity of QUAKE III Arena's legendary deathmatch experience with complex team-based scenarios, unrivaled new gameplay, and advanced functionality, " said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "We have overhauled everything from the server browser to the in-game communication system within QUAKE III: Team Arena to give gamers the ultimate team play experience."
"With QUAKE III: Team Arena id has once again set the standard for high-action multiplayer gaming," said Larry Goldberg, executive vice president, Activision Worldwide Studios. "The runaway worldwide success of QUAKE III Arena, coupled with the mission pack's incredible gameplay, positions QUAKE III: Team Arena to be a best-seller."
Beyond classic team deathmatch, capture the flag, and tournament modes, QUAKE III: Team Arena blends id's hallmark visceral frag fests with 15 new maps, including never-before-available vast outdoor terrain maps, and three new team focused games, One-Flag CTF, Harvester and Overload. In One-Flag CTF, each team vies for control of a flag located at the center of the map. The team that successfully runs the flag to their opponents base the most times wins the match. Harvester takes traditional capture the flag, turns it on its head and pumps it full of adrenaline. In Harvester, teams compete for skulls that appear in the center of the arena once a player is fragged. To claim victory, players must collect the skulls of fallen prey and battle their way into the enemy stronghold. Finally, Overload is the ultimate game of offense and defense as both team's objective is to destroy the opposing force's obelisk, while protecting their own.
QUAKE III: Team Arena brings a lethal mix of new power-ups and weapons into the fight. The flesh-shreading nail gun and chain gun make quick work of enemy combatants, and the new proximity mine launcher provides an added dose of defensive firepower. Also new to the game are the team power-ups Scout (speed boost), Guard (a health and armor enhancement), Doubler (damage boost) and Ammo Regeneration. Additionally, two new carried items add a fresh layer of strategic depth. The Invulnerability converts players into virtually indestructible human turrets, while the kamikaze redefines the term "devastating" with an enormous blast radius that shatters friends and foes alike.
