3DO Scores With Alex Ferguson’s Player Manager 2001
Company Signs Deal to Publish Four Sven Goran Eriksson’s World Cup Soccer Games
REDWOOD CITY, CA (November 13, 2001) - The 3DO Company (Nasdaq: THDO) announced today that 3DO Europe, Ltd. has scored a hit with Alex Ferguson’s Player Manager 2001. Ranked for several weeks among the Top 10 best-selling games in the United Kingdom for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Alex Ferguson’s Player Manager 2001 is the first soccer management game for the platform.
The launch of the game was accompanied by a huge, multi-faceted marketing campaign, including a live, five-on-a-side soccer match which was covered by major press outlets including ITV Sport and News of the World. Sir Alex Ferguson was on hand to present trophies and conduct interviews. Ferguson, manager of the dominant Manchester United Football Club, is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in the history of the sport, having guided his club to unprecedented multiple championship titles.
3DO Europe, Ltd. also announced they will publish four games under the prestigious Sven Goran Eriksson’s World Cup license: Sven Goran Eriksson’s World Cup Challenge and Sven Goran Eriksson’s World Cup Manager for both the PlayStation 2 system and the PlayStation® game console. The games are expected to launch in April as World Cup competition heats up. The premier sporting event in the world, the 2002 World Cup will be held in Japan and South Korea. England’s headline-grabbing national team manager Sven Goran Eriksson, former coach of Italian champions Lazio, has made a name for himself internationally with his tactical approach to the game.
