As the Japanese attack began on that fateful day, December 7th 1941, Jensen went to report to his duty station. On the way he came upon an un-attended 50. caliber anti-aircraft gun, which he and a sailor manned and did their best to shoot at and down the attacking enemy aircraft. Jensen and the sailor manned the gun until after the two enemy attacks had subsided and went through many a can of ammunition, which was brought to them from one of the airplane hangers on Ford Island. Don forgot how many cans of paint they burned off of the gun as they shot it for such a prolonged period of time.
